Golf is becoming a very popular sport. The popularity of golf has made the idea of building a golf course very attractive. A person who does not have passion for the sport will look at a golf course as just land that is set up to be appropriate for golf. For those who have great love for golf look at each golf course as land that upholds so much history and allows storytelling of great games between legends. It could be a great idea to have a professional golfer help guide you as you venture out to build your own golf course.

When just looking at a golf course you would think all you would really need to maintain the course would be some automatic sprinklers and maybe some trimming would be required once in a while. Unfortunately there is a lot more involved in the maintenance and planning that takes place to be able to build a golf course. The course should have great architectural design but still preserve the natural beauty that the land initially possesses. Work with the trees, bushes and slopes that already exist. Keeping this in mind you will be able to keep construction costs down since heavy earth moving tasks require intensive labor and equipment.

Costs for golf course construction range from $1.6 to $4.5 million. Building a new course can even exceed $10 million. The budget for annual maintenance has been increasing over the years since golfers are preferring to go to high quality courses in order to play. It is recommended not to cut corners when it comes to installing irrigation systems, drainage and construction of greens. Purchasing better quality will help save you from expenses in the long run. The USGA guidelines have been used to construct golf courses for nearly forty years. The USGA does not recommend the use of inorganic amendments when constructing your new greens.

Maintenance of the greens requires you to have large mowing equipments and of course you must also consider labor requirements in order for someone to operate the equipments on a regular basis. Building fewer sand bunkers and keeping steep slopes to a minimum can help keep maintenance costs down. The sand bunkers and slopes can make it difficult to keep up and additional labor will be involved. The key is to focus on the design of the course and by working with nature it will be far more less expensive to build and to maintain the course. By cutting down costs and keeping it simple you are passing along your savings to the golfers which will help to keep them coming back.

Making the golf course easily walkable will also help keep costs down for the golfers since renting a cart can cost up to $20 dollars per round. This of course will depend on the importance of the cart revenue. Some golf courses only allow carts to be able to keep up their cart revenue. If the course is constructed so that the distances between the green and the following tee are walkable, then the golfer can be given the option to either walk or use a cart while playing. Course conditioning is a great factor in being able to be successful at running a golf course, but it is wise to always remember that additional costs accrued to maintain the course will increase the costs for the golfers. It is up to you to make the right judgment when it comes time to put more money into the course. Will it be worth you increasing costs for the golfers?
